Enter the 2019 Sir Paul Callaghan Eureka! Awards
Entries are now open for the 2019 Sir Paul Callaghan Eureka! Awards.
Undergraduate and secondary school students have until 30 June to indicate their intention to enter and with final entries due a week later on 7 July 2019.
Scholarships worth up to $5000 are available in 12 categories for students who deliver a presentation that meets the criteria specified by the sponsoring organisation. Students do not need to qualify for the National Finals to receive a scholarship but will participate in the National Finals Symposium and all associated events.
Scholarships are to be used to further studies at a tertiary institution.
The 12 best presentations at the geographic region competitions and virtual region competition (an on-line region specifically for students who live too far from a regional competition to easily participate) will be selected to participate in the National Finals on 8 September.
All finalists receive at least a Merit Award certificate plus $1,500.
The two best secondary school presentations and the two best undergraduate will each receive a Highly Commended Certificate plus a total of $5,000.
The student who delivers the best presentation overall (i.e the best of the four Highly Commended) will receive the Premier Award Trophy and a total of $10,000.
Even more than the cash, the rewards of entering and succeeding are: the relationships with other contestants and sponsors; participation in the Alumni Group; access to Callaghan Innovation funded internships; exposure to new ideas from the Alumni Forum and the value participation adds to a student's CV.
For those students whose participation is complete at the regional level the opportunity exists to have personal effort and academic achievement recognised through NCEA Achievement Standards.
